INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is a unique show of exhibition proposals organized by an
anonymous group of artists and designers. Anyone is encouraged to submit their ideas
to the Meat Market Gallery by completing an application form and optional 3-D model.
Examples of these applications will then be displayed in the gallery. There is no
restriction to the proposals: they neednʼt be financially, ethically, or scientifically feasible.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY posits a utopian notion of the gallery space as an
idealized forum for discourse. This show has been created to provide an egalitarian
platform for the expression of ideas that arenʼt limited by anything other than the
imagination of the participants. The intention is to compare the gallery space to the
modern bureaucratic form—two methodically organized spaces designed according to
their function: in both cases providing an optimal viewing environment for information.
Both are self-referentially designed around a specific purpose and both establish a
severe, clinically homogeneous environment as a foil for human expression.
Each proposal emphasizes the conceptual potential of the space in which the viewer
physically confronts the submissions. Striving to create a space optimized for the clear
conception of ideas, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY not only transmits ideas, but also
mediates them.
